Unity Ribbon

  Unity Ribbon bracelets    Lapel pin

Purpose

This craft activity to create unity ribbon bracelets and lapel pins creates group identity, unifying the friends by working in pairs. The group can consult on ribbon colors, which to make, where to wear them or which wrist to wear them on.

Materials

Bracelet - 16 inches of ¼" Ribbon in each of any 3 colors.
Lapel Pin - 8 inches of ¼" Ribbon in each of any 3 colors: Pearl Head pin or safety pin
Time Period

20 -30 minutes

Steps

1. For each project, divide group into pairs, one person holds the three ends of the ribbon while the other will braid the three strands together.
2. Braid, folding each outside strand towards the middle as you work.
3. When you have completed the required length, stitch, knot, or use fabric glue to secure each end.
4a. For the Bracelet: Tie and knot around wrist.
4b. For the Lapel Pin: Fold braided ribbon in half, creating a graceful curve. Cross ends over one inch from the ends and secure with fabric glue or a tack stitch. Pin to lapel using a pearl head pin or safety pin.
