Courtesy of Judith Johnson, JapanBook 2, Deepening Themes, Sections 6 and 7, provide a good opportunity for group members to think about the meaning of the virtues, and share ideas on the relationship between the virtues and teaching.
1. The tutor identifies virtues that appear in these two sections and prepares a virtue card for each virtue. You can also order virtues cards at www.virtuesproject.com.
2. After members have studied Sections 6 and 7, they pick a card (randomly), and find that virtue in the text.
3. They explain how the virtue relates to their personal efforts in teaching the Faith.
4. They read the definition of the virtue written on the card to other group members. There are enough virtues to allow smaller groups to go through this process twice.
Optional:
Members can then:
1. draw their own version of what the virtue they selected, might look like in action.
2. take a few minutes to meditate on the virtue and the context in which it appears and try to visualize or imagine a color associated with the virtue. They can explain their feelings about the color, if they wish.
