Submitted Tuesday, March 28, 2006
Courtesy of Naseem Nuri, USAA fun way to encourage the memorization process and build team spirit at the same time.
Materials:
beanbags (one for each group)
selected quotation (one per team)
index cards -- with parts of the quotation on each index card until the entire quotation is written out
string or tape -- to mark a line on the floor (the distance from the line to the cards will vary from 3-5 feet depending on the age of the group members etc.)
Process: Participants can all work together in one group if the group is small, or divide up into several teams.
1. Lay the quotation cards out on the floor in random order. The team cooperates and works together. Each team member takes a turn tossing the beanbag standing behind the line, hoping that it will land on the appropriate card.
2. The cards must be "won" by the beanbag landing on them in order. If the beanbag misses a card altogether or lands on a card not in the right order, no card is won for that turn. Players are encouraged to help their teammates by cheering them on and deciding as a group which card comes next.
3. If you are playing with more than one team, whichever team completes their quote first wins. Each team can be appointed an observer. The observer has the completed quote and can say if the card landed on is right or wrong, but cannot say which card is next.
4. The team should be putting their quote in the right order, lining up the cards correctly, in another location, perhaps a nearby table or section of the floor.
