Puzzle Example
Purpose
A fun way to encourage memorization of the Holy Word.
Materials
Type short quotations, one quotation per page, into MS Word and make the font size very large. Put extra spaces around each word so you have room to cut, and also make the quotation 1.5 or double-spaced. Print out on cardstock or other heavy paper. Cut the words out for each quotation, making a puzzle of the quotation words.
Time Period
20-30 minutes
Steps
1. Take the quotation puzzle pieces and ask Study Circle participants to piece the quotation back together! You can create puzzles for several quotations and set-up "memorization stations" around the room, each person moving from one to the next after they solve the puzzle.
Alternate version from a Study Circle in Papua New Guinea: quotations are typed and cut into sections. These sections then become the puzzle pieces. Players can work independently or in groups to sort and match all of the pieces to reassemble the quotations. You can choose to make self-correcting puzzle pieces (where shapes link into each other) or cut the sections into rectangles where they can be joined together in any order, depending on the level of challenge required.
Notes
This works particularly well for short quotations.
Other Applications
For longer quotations, print out the quotation using a large font on cardstock and then only cut out selected words to make a puzzle.
