Purpose

To create prayer cards or in-memorium cards that can be given as gifts or inserted into the participants' prayer books.

Materials

Resume/parchment paper, multi-colored construction paper, scissors, glue, magic markers.  Optional items are stationery, greeting cards, patterned scissors, gold/silver gel pens, colored pencils, rubber stamps with various colored ink pads, etc.

Time Period

Set aside 30 minutes for this activity.

Steps

1.  Print out a short prayer onto resume/parchment paper.  Try to select a prayer short enough to allow four prayers to fit on one page (Refresh and gladden my spirit..., the Short Obligatory Prayer, etc. are excellent choices).   Cut the prayers out so each has a good sized margin.

2.   Hand out the prayer cards, or if you have several prayers participants can select their choice.  Ask each person to decorate the prayer.   If you have old greeting cards on-hand they can be pasted in and then decorated, or placed on construction paper, etc.  Be creative!

3.  The prayer cards can be for personal use or addressed to a friend.  Have extra cards so participants can make additional prayer cards if they would like to.

Notes

If a participant prefers to create a prayer with a different prayer, have some extra paper on hand and they can copy the prayer out themselves.

Other Applications

Prayer cards can be used for many activities, Book 1 / Unit 2 on Prayer, or Book 1 / Unit 3 on Life and Death to create "In Memoriam" cards.
