Courtesy of Lorri Hendon and Ryan Siegel, Philomath, Oregon, U"Mount Your Steeds, O Heroes of God" is a play based on Lesson 19 in Ruhi Book 5 (download play above). The lesson's theme is the Heroic Age, and conveys to the children the true heroism of the Babis who gave their lives to defend their beliefs.
Our class of 6 children ages 7 to 10 years old performed this short play at our Baha'i school's end of year celebration. We printed out a program with the names of the different scenes, and we introduced the play by explaining to our audience of Baha'is and seekers that the Babis were allowed by the Bab to defend themselves, but were never the aggressors in the conflicts that occurred.
We had props and simple costumes to create more drama. (Because we have a class rule that we do not portray violence or weapons in our use of drama, none of our characters had swords.) We used a recording of the song "Mount Your Steeds" between scenes. It was a great success!
