Let participants know at first study circle session what practice visits they will be expected to do during the course - Book 1 - to study prayers, Book 2 - to share deepenings or talks, Book 4 - to tell stories about the life of the Twin Manifestations Explain that the practice visits are an essential part of the course - this is the skill-building part (ie institute courses are to gain knowledge, spiritual insight and skills).
- Set time aside for the group to give talks and deepenings within the study circle to build confidence.
- Encourage a buddy system for making visits.
- Brainstorm ideas with the group about making visits - youth, children, family, "inactive" Bahá'ís etc - this promotes "ownership".
- Allow flexibility about who the participants choose to visit.
- Some may want to give a talk at a Feast or other event and, although this is not a visit, at least it provides a forum for practice.
- Accompany participants on a visit, if this helps.
- Help the friends to work out what to say when telephoning for an appointment - a good approach is "I need to practice presenting a deepening for my course homework - can you help me out?"
- Remind and encourage the study circle at each session about their visits.
- Encourage sharing of experiences at each session.
- Establish an environment of loving support and encouragement for each other amongst the participants.
- Many study circle participants have been successful in approaching their non-Bahá'í friends or acquaintances to make visits.
